Give back this Christmas

Christmas is the spirit of giving, without a thought of receiving. Sadly, not everyone will be receiving gifts this Christmas, so please spare a gift or two for our giving tree located by the Customer Services Desk on the upper mall. The donations will be going to Home-Start Northampton who offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes.
It will certainly bring a little joy to many families who are struggling this Christmas.

Donations accepted at the Customer Service desk on Monday – Saturday, 10-4PM once lockdown has lifted.

Please message us on Facebook to drop outside these hours, or if the desk is unmanned.

Home-Start Northampton is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age and living in the Borough of Northampton. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families facing adversities such as isolation, the effects of post-natal illness, disability or mental health issues, bereavement, multiple births, poverty or financial difficulties, substance abuse or low self-esteem and confidence in their own homes. Home-Start helps to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

Their support is informal, friendly, and confidential; delivered through carefully selected and prepared volunteers who are parents themselves. Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play a key role in giving their children a good start in life helping them to achieve their full potential.

The help they give to each family depends entirely on their personal circumstances and is tailored to meet their individual needs.

Christmas traditionally poses an extra challenge for Home-Start families, due to the additional spending and stress of the season. The festive season should be a special time for family celebrations. Sadly it has become a matter of dread and personal deprivation for many parents. Many families struggle to make ends meet on a day to day basis, but as Christmas approaches, this becomes even more difficult.  Young children believe in the magic of Christmas, yet many families simply can’t afford to provide this and disappointed parents experience both financial and emotional lows.

During the festive season, it’s natural for families to feel some degree of stress or anxiety. Whether it is due to the financial side of things or simply trying to meet everyone’s expectations, this time of year can be very challenging.  Many families really struggle to relax and enjoy the day because of the financial burden.  Home-Start tries to help families navigate through this testing time and with your help they will be able to provide that extra little bit of magic this Christmas with a Christmas gift. This really will mean the world to the Home-Start families.

Please deliver your donations from Thursday 3rd December to our Customer Service desk between Monday – Saturdays from 10-4pm. Please message us on Facebook to drop outside these hours, or if the desk is unmanned. Alternatively, you can call 01604 411 521 Mon – Fri, 9-5pm, to arrange for someone to come and collect from you.

For our team’s safety, we will sanitise before and after handling the gift and it will then be quarantined for 72 hours before being given to the Home-Start team.

Any gifts not given at Christmas to the Home-Start families will go towards birthday presents throughout the year, so your donation will continue to bring joy beyond the festive period.

Please do not wrap the gift – we need to ensure they are safe and suitable to hand to children/the correct age group.
