Weston Favell shopping centre teams up with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity

Weston Favell shopping centre announced SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is set to become its Charity of the Year for 2018/2019. The partnership will officially commence this Saturday 30th June, with local volunteers visiting the centre to commemorate Armed Forces Day.

SSAFA provides lifelong support to the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in times of need. Beginning this vital work in 1885, this makes SSAFA the oldest tri-service, military charity running in the UK. This year alone, staff and teams of volunteers have helped over 67,000 people – from World War Two veterans to those involved in more recent conflicts and their families.

Local volunteers from the charity will be in Weston Favell this Saturday to officially launch the partnership. Customers will find them in the centre’s Community Zone and can learn more about their initiatives, plans and events.

Jonny King, Corporate Fundraising Officer at SSAFA comments: “We are excited to be working with Weston Favell as their Charity of the Year. Partnerships such as this allow us to spread the word about the vital work that we do and allow us to help more members of the Armed Forces community – so we are grateful to the team here for choosing us. We look forward to making this a positive year with the local community”.

Weston Favell’s Centre Manager, Kevin Legg, said “Each year, the team here at Weston Favell sits down and, together, we choose a Charity of the Year - one that helps within our community. This year, as the world is marking the centenary of the end of WW1, we wanted to honour all those who served, died and who have been affected by wars and conflicts by supporting SSAFA, an organisation dedicated to providing emotional but also practical support to the country’s veterans and their families and we will be proud to play a small part in making a difference in to the welfare and wellbeing of them and their loved ones”.
